A 45-year old woman, Lim Ann Nee, was granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal in respect of an offence of culpable homicide which had earlier been amended and reduced from the initial charge for an offence of murder.
The charge related to the woman having allegedly drowned her 17-month-old son in the sea off East Coast Park.
The Prosecution acknowledged that Lim had been suffering from an acute transient psychotic disorder at the time of the alleged offence which she had now recovered fully from with her family’s support.
As part of the discharge not amounting to an acquittal, Lim was required to comply with stringent conditions which include continuing to undergo regular psychiatric assessment and counselling for the next three years and her husband was also required to give a formal undertaking to ensure that she is properly cared for and prevented from harming herself or others.
