A 39-year old Australian marketing manager, Aaron Peter Jeremicjczyk, was sentenced to a fine of $3,000 after pleading guilty to a charge for an offence of causing hurt by punching a 35-year old woman.
On 9 March 2014, the victim had seen Jeremicjczyk, a Singapore permanent resident, arguing with a limousine driver about the price of a fare.
After the victim had tried to calm Jeremicjczyk down, Jeremicjczyk approached the victim’s vehicle and punched her on the nose through the open passenger door window which caused her to suffer redness and swelling on her nose.
Jeremicjczyk’s criminal defence lawyer said that although his actions were inexcusable, the victim had contributed to the start of the incident when she had allegedly made provocative, insulting and racist comments about Jeremicjczyk.
Jeremicjczyk’s lawyer also highlighted that Jeremicjczy’s reputation had been adversely affected by the social media attention on the case which had also contributed to him to losing his job shortly after the incident.
